Reducing calories can increase brain memory

Reducing the number of calories in the diet can lose weight but also can enhance memory. A study at the University of Munster, Germany, found a statistically significant improvement in the performance of the brain looks after reducing the amount of calories.

"The results were quite dramatic. Statistically significant improvement in their performance on memory tests clearly visible during the study," said Mark P. Mattson, one of the researchers.

The findings are based on research conducted on 50 women aged 50 to 80 years. They have normal weight or slightly overweight. Twenty women were assigned to cutting calories, 20 increase the intake of unsaturated fatty acids (which some studies suggest may help aging brains), and 10 remaining stuck with a normal diet.

The result, women who reduced their calorie intake by 30 percent for three months led to their verbal memory tests also rose by 20 percent. Unlike the women who reduced calories, women who consume a lot of unsaturated fatty acids, showed no improvement in their memory. It also does not terjadipada normal diet group.
