Consumption of a handful of nuts per day turned out to work to keep hunger and reduce abdominal fat, claim scientists from the University of Barcelona.
The study involved 22 patients on the diet for 12 weeks and the beans are then compared with another group of 20 patients who followed the peanut-free diet.
During that investigators routinely examine any compound that is excreted in the urine of patients. The results are visible participants who consumed 30 grams of nuts a day have higher levels of serotonin.
"This is the first time there is research on the relationship between the nut and the high levels of serotonin (a substance that decreases the appetite, increase happiness and improve heart health)" explained researcher Cristina Andris Lacueva.
Lacueva also advised to take one ounce of raw walnuts or almonds or hazelnuts every day to produce positive health effects.
It is hoped the findings published in the Journal of Proteome Research will be beneficial for patients with metabolic syndrome characterized by excess abdominal fat, high blood sugar and high blood pressur
