Is it true that fish oil had no effect on intelligence?

Dr. Cristina Campoy results from Spain which lasted for seven years to announce that No differences in levels of intelligence, among children who were given fish oil, and what not, when the child was six years old.

The results of this research evidence as well as strengthen the research of scientists from Norway recently that also found no difference in IQ level, among children aged seven years when his mother was pregnant consume fish oil, and which not.

Is it true that fish oil had no effect on intelligence?
Fatty acids, such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are found in oily fish and some other food sources, including milk, is necessary for fetal growth and development. The problem is, whether pregnant women who took supplements of this nutrient will affect the intelligence of the baby later?

In his research, Campoy asked the pregnant women who participated in this study consumed fish oil, fish oil and folic acid, folic acid alone, or pills that do not contain nutrients, in two trimesters of pregnancy.

Seven years later, Campoy and his team tested the intelligence of 154 children born to mothers who participated in the study. The result, the children have a comparable level of intelligence, no matter what eat supplement their mother.

Even so, Campoy affirmed that the results of his research is not to prove that fatty acids like DHA are not important. In fact, researchers found children who at birth have high enough levels of DHA in their blood, have the intelligence test scores slightly higher when they were seven years old.

What I want to emphasize from the results of this research is that pregnant women should not consume fish oil supplements. Adding food sources of omega-3 in the daily diet before and during pregnancy thats enough. In fact, diets rich in omega-3 in the long run far more beneficial than fish oil supplementation during pregnancy.

The researchers revealed that there are many factors that influence growth and development of infants, ie genetic, stimulation, and nutrition. In other words, if only relying on fish oil to get the smart kids, then the results are worth it.
