Forget the hot milk or camomile tea if you can not sleep at night, now try a glass of cherry juice.

Scientists claim to the consumption of fruit juice, vitamin C is found to increase the quality and duration of sleep very well, despite having a sour taste.

In experiments by scientists from the Centre for Sleep Research, School of Life Sciences participants who drank cherry juice not only sleep longer, but also have good quality sleep.

This is seen when a group of volunteers was given a 30ml portion of tart cherry juice or placebo juice twice daily for seven days and are equipped with sensors to monitor their sleep patterns.

The participants who consumed cherry juice seen an increase of about 25 minutes in total sleep time and increased 6 percent in the quality of their sleep.

"These findings may be useful for those who have trouble sleeping because of work, insomnia, or jet lag. This is because the cherry juice contains enough melatonin to respond to a healthy sleep" explained one researcher Dr Jason Ellis
