Hormone Love Become Inspiration for Lung Cancer Drug

The hormone oxytocin, known as the hormone of love known to have good impact for the body. Now researchers revealed that the hormone oxytocin can be an inspiration to cure lung cancer.

Professor Chris Easton, Ph.D., and colleagues examined ways to reduce the death rate from lung cancer cells with creating a new mediation, which target the biological factors that underlie disease. The study was published in Medicinal Chemistry Communication.

"Lung cancer is still the most common cause of death. Because there is a real need in developing new drugs to treat this disease. Although still early, but the results obtained are very promising,"

The scientists examined the PAM, an enzyme that activates several key peptide hormones, including calcitonin which promotes cell proliferation and oxytocin, known as the hormone of love.

In previous research has shown that the peptide hormone imbalance causes several types of cancer, asthma and inflammatory diseases. And an increase in calcitonin-related lung cancer cell survival. So this study is working to reduce levels of calcitonin in controlling the activity of the enzyme PAM.

And has developed a new compound called O-decanoylglycolate to inhibit calcitonin product and limit cell growth,

Breakthrough calcitonin has also produced a better understanding of how one hormone can be controlled. By studying a broader how peptide hormone production can be organized and interdependent, can stimulate the production of some hormones and reduce the levels of other hormones.

"A number of compounds are very effective in reducing the PAM activity and lower levels of calcitonin. We hope to provide a new drug therapies to enhance and extend the life of lung cancer patients,"
