Indirubin Potential Cure Brain Tumors

INDIRUBIN, a kind of herbal plants used in traditional medicine Chine drug ingredients that could potentially be able to fight tumors and cancer.

These plants originated from plants indogo and used as the active ingredient in the formula Dang Gui Long Hui Wan commonly used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia.

Researchers from Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) found that the compound indirubin, which is known to inhibit migration of glioblastoma cells and endothelial cells are also able to stop cancers from forming blood vessels. The endothelial cells are the thin cells lining the inner surface of blood vessels.


Glioblastomas brain cancer is the most common and deadly form of malignant brain cancer with an average survival of 15 months after diagnosis, according to the journal Cancer Research.

This finding suggests that indirubin could be used as new treatment strategies for this tumor which was also banish tumor invasion and angiogenesis.
