It turned out that massage therapy is more effective in reducing back pain than the consumption of drugs and sports.
Research conducted involving scientists from America at least 400 participants who suffered from chronic back pain without a clear medical cause for at least three months.
Then a third of their structural massage treatments are given every week, another third received a massage of relaxation and rest taking painkillers or muscle relaxers, and reduce the level of activity or exercise.
The scientists also found that both groups of participants who received massage treatment of back pain reported that their symptoms decreased after 10 weeks, compared to the group that received no massage. Six months later, participants who did not receive a massage is still reported worse symptoms than those who were massaged.
Researchers believe this is caused by a type of massage that works just as well to reduce pain.
"Although the structural massage therapy still looks better than a relaxing massage, but the results are equally good for treating back pain," said researcher Karen J. Sherman, of the nonprofit group Research Institute in Seattle, USA.
