UN: Gasoline containing lead must be destroyed in 2013

United Nations (UN) called for no more gasoline that contains lead in the next two years. The call is valid globally, with the aim to improve the quality of life for mankind. Unleaded gasoline will be more healthful because the resulting exhaust gases contain fewer harmful toxins.

Studies conducted Thomas Hatfield of California State University revealed, unleaded gasoline will increase the level of intelligence, lower blood lead levels to 90 percent and prevent premature death of more than 1.2 million people per year. Removal of lead also means profits worth U.S. $ 2.4 trillion per year in health, social and economic.

Campaign discontinuation of leaded gasoline has been made since a decade ago. More than 185 countries around the world has stopped adding lead to gasoline. However, there are still six states that still use lead namely Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, North Korea, Myanmar and Yemen.

Lead was first added to gasoline in the 1920s, but bad for health effects is not known until a decade later. "Now we know that lead can cause damage to the brain, kidneys, and cardiovascular disease in adults and children," said the statement in the report of research results.
