People with insomnia have a higher risk of heart attack

People who suffer from insomnia have a higher risk of heart attacks claim researchers from Norway.

They find people who are difficult to fall asleep increased risk of heart disease as much as 45 percent.

The research reported in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association included 52 610 Norwegians who answered questions about insomnia as part of a national health survey in 1995-1997.

Researchers found those who have insomnia have 45 percent greater risk for heart disease, and this risk is worse if the symptoms worsened insomnia.

"Sleep problems are a common problem and is actually quite easy to treat, now if there are facts that connect people with heart disease should not be dismissed again, and began to take action" explains lead researcher Dr. Lars Erik Laugsand from Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim .

Previous smaller studies have linked insomnia to heart disease, including high blood pressure and heart attacks each year in the UK and an estimated 111,000 people have heart attacks
